Now I have two blogs. On February 7, 2006, I started
a blog about information indexing and management.
In January 2008, my new
blog about raising kids and working at home
launched for the Boston Parents' Paper.
I encourage you to visit both and share your opinions.
"The Indexing Revival" (PDF). If you're an indexer, chances are you've been getting busier even during the recent economic downturn. My overview of the indexing profession explains why indexers are uniquely positioned to capitalize on the business practices of the information age. (Cover article for STC's intercom.)
Index Evaluation Consulting. Whether you're a company looking for in-depth product analysis, or an individual
looking for reassurance and growth, a professional assessment adds value to your work.
Audio CD Instruction. Two of three telephone seminars are available for sale.
Information about ABC Indexing Seminar and Evaluating an Index
is available on my seminars page. A third seminar, Keywords, is in production.
Blogs and e-Journals. Do new readers slog through your blog? It's okay to write chronologically,
but give your audience some better options.
Consider the power of a journal index. I can get you started, or I can take over; it's up to you.
A good blog index can be be just as fun as the blog itself, filled with additional, spontaneous connections
between your ideas. Ask me more.
Past-President Seth Maislin My elected role as president of the
American Society of Indexers (ASI)
concluded in Philadephia in 2007, but I remain active on the board and with several
ASI projects and activities. I welcome your feedback and input.
Pro-bono indexing! Are you a charitable organization in need of an indexer? Let me match you with one of
my indexing students, who are looking for experience. Get that job done, with style. Send a description
of your organization and project to seth@maislin.com.
Keywords and Search Optimization. Improve the quality of your search and search results
with some solid editorial help. Talk to me about keyword authoring, writing classification schemes, taxonomies, and other options.
Email me at seth@maislin.com.
Unusual Projects. For that matter, almost all information projects,
no matter how specific or eclectic, are better with even the smallest of indexes. What's your project?
I've helped to organize websites, periodical collections, sales catalogs, operating systems, blogs, Haggadot,
... even physical spaces! (Who designs your filing system, hm?)
Good ideas deserve good retrieval.
